161 Jamaica Ave | 9,500 sq ft | Community-Owned Forever
ENYCLT is in contract to purchase a historic building at the northwest edge of East New York, directly in the path of a massive development boom and gentrification spilling out of Bushwick and Bed-Stuy. At a below-market price, this purchase is a chance to remove land from the speculative market and establish a permanent, deeply affordable, community stronghold in East New York, Brooklyn’s final battleground against displacement.
We need to raise $1,300,000 by April 2026 to make it a reality!
Your donation secures 161 Jamaica Ave as community-controlled land forever.
With rising rents, cuts to the safety net and ongoing deportation, our community needs a stable, non‑policed community center.
The East Brooklyn Liberation Center will provide deeply affordable, long-term space for:
CULTURAL GROUPS like leading local organizations Preserving East New York (PENY) and East Brooklyn Archives - led by artists, architects and preservationists of color, they landmark historic buildings in East New York and educate young people and adults through public programming including oral history projects, workshops, walking tours, art exhibitions and social events.
LOCAL BUSINESSES & WORKER COOPS in need of office and workshop space. We are talking with incubators and financiers of the solidarity economy including New Economy Project and the Working World.
ENYCLT’S NEW ORGANIZING HOME to anchor our community work and accommodate our rapidly expanding membership and staff. We have close to 100 dues-paying members and we plan to grow to 550 by 2027. We will use it for tenant and member meetings, trainings and events, homeowner support and ICE defense.
