MEETING & COMMITTEE SCHEDULE

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

WHEN: First Saturday of every month from 12 – 2 pm

WHERE: In person at various ENY locations. Subscribe to our email list or follow us on Instagram or Facebook for updates!

ABOUT: These meetings are an opportunity for the entire membership to come together to share updates, discuss our campaign work and vote on key organizational decisions. Open to all members and those interested in membership.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & OUTREACH

WHEN: Second and third Wednesdays from 7 – 8 pm (virtual)

ABOUT: Our goal is to educate others about the CLT model, grow our membership & develop new leaders. We do this by:

1) Connecting with residents of East New York & Brownsville through outreach and workshops.

2) Planning community events and fundraisers such as the annual Autumn Soiree, bingo nights, block parties and more.

POLICY, ADVOCACY & ORGANIZING

WHEN: Biweekly on Fridays at 4 pm (virtual)

ABOUT: We draft and advocate for legislation that supports the growth of the CLT movement. We are currently fighting for the Community Land Act (CLA) – City council bill package that includes three bills:

1) Public Land for Public Good

2) Community Opportunity to Purchase Act / Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (COPA/TOPA)

3) Abolish the Tax Lien Sale

JUSTICE FOR THE JEWEL STREETS

WHEN: Biweekly on Thursdays at 4 pm (virtual)

CO-CHAIRS: Debra & Niani

ABOUT: We organize with residents in the Jewel Streets area to push the City to:

1) Install a sewer system to relieve all the residents who still rely on septic tanks

2) Design & install robust green infrastructure & a resilient rainwater drainage system

3) Transfer the city-owned 17-acre vacant lot in the Jewel Streets area to community ownership.

LAND ACQUISITION & SPECULATION

WHEN: Biweekly on Tuesdays at 4 pm

CO-CHAIR: Ivi

ABOUT: We support tenants’ campaigns to take control of their buildings by conducting research on the worst speculators and landlords in the neighborhood. We find details relevant to our organizing, including information on lenders, related business interests and violations across the portfolio.
